The organisation Tube Lines Limited are working on behalf of London Underground to implement a ‘low carbon station’ initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the operation of our stations. Green 2020 were commissioned by Tube Lines to perform an assessment of the total carbon savings and carbon payback that would arise following the implementation of seventeen proposed low carbon technology solutions at our stations. In addition, the consultancy were requested to examine low carbon technology suppliers and their respective products to identify the most applicable assets for implementation. The results were delivered both in report format and a presentation and the study is now being used to inform London Underground design teams about preferential actions to reduce emissions across the network.

Green 2020 were appointed following a competitive tender process and completed the first phase of the project between 30th April 2009 and 19th June 2009. The contract was awarded due to Green 2020 specific expertise in the area of carbon assessment, their ability to measure greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain and excellent partnerships with other experts within the field.

I was extremely impressed with not only Green 2020 consultants’ knowledge and technical capacity but also their professionalism and ability to complete the project within the deadlines set and to budget. Their project managers in particular displayed a high level of technical aptitude, sound judgement and flexibility when it came to small changes in scope and our requirements.

A high level of competency was shown by Green 2020 employees throughout the project and both Tube Lines and London Underground engineers were especially impressed with the level of communication that was received. The final report and presentation were both delivered to a very high standard and received further praise from London Underground employees not previously involved with the project.
